Questions and answers
General
Can the service be ordered fully remotely?
Yes, in most cases. If a personal visit or a power of attorney is needed, we will tell you before the work begins
Which countries do you work with?
It depends on the service. We work with documents, archives and state authorities of Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Armenia, other former USSR countries and a number of European states, and support citizenship, repatriation and migration matters in various countries
Can I apply if I don't know where the document is held?
Come with whatever information you have. During the initial assessment we will identify which archives or authorities may hold the records you need
Can I obtain documents while living in another country?
Yes. We arrange retrieval and delivery regardless of your country of residence, where the law and the authority's procedures allow it
Do I need a power of attorney?
It depends on the document, the country and the authority's requirements. We will check in advance whether your task needs one
How much do services cost?
For standard services with a clear scope we name the price before the work starts. Archival research, complex documentary cases, questions of origin, citizenship and migration status are calculated after assessing the situation and the amount of work
How long does it take?
It depends on the service, the country and the authority. We will give you an estimated timeframe before the work begins. How quickly archives and state bodies respond is up to them
What if the document or record is not found?
A negative reply from one archive does not always mean the records do not exist. We will check possible alternative sources and suggest a further search if there are grounds for it
Can you assess the prospects first?
Yes. The initial assessment is free. If the situation requires studying documents, legislation and grounds and developing a strategy, we offer a full paid consultation
Can I order only part of the procedure?
Yes. You can order a single service — e.g. obtaining a document or an archival search — or full support
Do you guarantee the result?
We are responsible for proper performance of the agreed scope, adherence to procedure and professional support. Decisions of state authorities, archives, courts and consulates are made independently, so guaranteeing a decision outside our control would be improper
How is confidentiality ensured?
We use your information and documents only to carry out the order and do not publish them. Where needed, we set out confidentiality terms in the contract
How is payment made?
We agree the payment procedure and stages before the work begins, based on the chosen service and the scope of the task
How do I receive the documents?
Depending on the service, the result is delivered electronically or as originals by courier or post to the agreed address
How do I start?
Describe the task in the form on this site. After the initial assessment we will tell you whether we can do it, which option fits and which documents are needed — we ask for those after we reply
Documents and archives
Which documents can you obtain?
Civil status records, archival certificates and extracts, personal and registration files, departmental archive records, education, employment, repression and military service documents and more — depending on country, period and repository
Can a document be obtained without a power of attorney?
It depends on the document type, degree of kinship, country and institution. Some documents need no power of attorney; others require proof of kinship or authorisation. We assess this before starting
What if I don't know which archive holds the document?
We first determine the likely repository by territory, period and record type. If necessary the search proceeds through several archives or authorities in turn
Can Soviet-era documents be found if the person lived in what is now another country?
Yes. The repository is determined not by present citizenship but by where and by which body the record was created and where the fonds was later transferred
What if the archive already said there are no records?
That doesn't always mean the search is exhausted. We check whether the archive, fonds, period and record type were correctly identified and whether alternative sources exist
Can you arrange an apostille, legalisation or translation?
Yes, if required for further use of the document. The method depends on the issuing country and the country where it will be presented
What do I get if the search yields nothing?
If the result is negative, the scope of the search and sources checked are documented; where prospects remain, next directions are identified
Genealogy
Where does genealogical research begin?
With analysing known facts and documents. We identify the last reliably established ancestor, the territory and period, and then plan the sequence of archival sources
How far back can a family line be traced?
It depends on how well the sources survived. In some regions several centuries can be traced; in others archival losses limit the depth significantly
Can research begin if very little is known about the ancestor?
Yes, but first we assess whether the initial data is enough to identify the person. Sometimes the first stage is establishing a single fact
Can an ancestor's ethnicity be confirmed?
Yes, if documents or a body of archival sources exist in which ethnicity or origin is recorded. The purpose of research is to find documentary evidence, not to confirm a predetermined version
What if records show different surnames, dates or places of birth?
Discrepancies are analysed together with other evidence. Additional archival documents, correction of civil records or a court finding of fact may be required
Can research be done specifically for citizenship?
Yes. Then the research is built around the legal goal: establishing the exact family line and obtaining the evidence relevant under that country's law
Does a foreign ancestor guarantee a right to citizenship?
No. Descent alone does not mean a legal basis exists. Country, period, the ancestor's status, degree of kinship, acquisition or loss of citizenship and current law all matter
Citizenship
How do I know if I qualify for citizenship by descent?
Your family history must be matched against the law of the specific country: who the ancestor was, where and when they were born or lived, what citizenship they held, and how the line runs to the applicant
Is it enough that my grandparent was born in the country?
Not always. Different countries weigh the ancestor's citizenship, territory and date of birth, ethnicity, emigration, loss of citizenship, repression, number of generations and other conditions
Can we check the grounds first and collect documents later?
Yes, and this order is usually the most rational. The legal prospects are assessed first, then we determine which evidence is actually needed
What if there are no documents about the ancestor?
An archival search is carried out: civil records, parish registers, censuses, registration documents, personal files, migration and military records, repression files
Can you handle only the documents and I file myself?
Yes. The scope is defined by the task: from assessing the grounds or obtaining individual documents to full support of the procedure
Can the whole family apply at once?
It depends on the country's law and the basis. Rules for spouses and children can differ significantly; the set of applicants is determined after analysing the programme
Can you guarantee citizenship?
No. The decision is made by the competent state authority. We assess grounds and risks, build the evidence and support the procedure, but do not replace the decision-maker
Residence permits
How do I know which residence permit suits me?
We analyse citizenship, country of residence, source and size of income, work or business, family and plans, then compare available bases and choose the most rational option
Which bases do you support?
Depending on the country: financial independence, remote work / Digital Nomad, entrepreneurship, employment, company formation and other bases provided by law
Must I be in the country to apply?
It depends on the programme. Some start through the consulate in your country of residence; others allow filing in the destination country if there are legal grounds for it
What income is required?
Requirements are set by the country's law and programme and may depend on family size. The source, regularity and provability of income also matter
Can I include my spouse and children?
In many programmes yes, but conditions differ. Requirements for marriage, children's age, financial means and family documents are checked separately
Will I have to pay taxes after getting a permit?
A residence permit and tax residency are not the same. Tax consequences depend on length of stay, sources of income, national law and double-taxation treaties
Do I need to buy property?
Not necessarily. Most bases don't require a purchase, although proof of accommodation is usually needed. Investment programmes are considered separately
Do you guarantee the permit?
No. The decision is made by the competent authority. Before starting we assess eligibility and risks, then support you within the agreed scope
